| 词源 | escalator. Escalator does not derive from the (imaginary) French word escalateur, as an old persistent story has it. Though it is no longer a trademark, escalator was coined as such by the Otis Elevator Company in 1900, but lost its exclusivity over the years. The moving stairway was first exhibited by the New York City company at the Paris exposition in 1900, which may ac- count for the erroneous escalateur theory. |
