quoit (n.)

“coyte”（盎格鲁-法语），指“一种游戏中抛掷的扁平石头”，后来还有用同样方式使用的铁环（15世纪）； 这个词的起源不确定； 可能来源于古法语“coite” [意为扁平石头]，这个词可能是“靠垫”（即 cushion）的变体，与“coilte”（请参见“quilt”（N.））有关。
