词汇 | a plague on both your houses |
词源 | A plague on both your houses! Shakespeare probably coined this curse in Romeo and Juliet (1595) when Romeo’s friend Mercutio is killed by Tybalt of Juliet’s Capulet family. As he lays dying, he cries out, “A plague o’ both your houses!” referring to both the Capulets and Romeo’s Montague family. Today the words are often said by voters of America’s two major political parties. |
