词源	yule. Yule, which is akin to jolly, meant December or January in English before it meant Christmas, the word first recorded in 1726. In this sense it derives from an Old Norse word mean- ing one of the winter months. As a word for Christmas it prob- ably derives from the Old Norse jol, the name of a heathen fes- tival at the winter solstice.
