It’s not true that Izaak Walton said of the worm, as bait for fish: “Use him as though you loved him, that is harm him as little as you may possibly, that he may live the longer.” He was referring to the frog when he wrote this in his classic The Compleat Angler, or the Contem- plative Man’s Recreation (1653), but his words became misin- terpreted over the years, probably because fishermen use worms more than frogs. |
