词汇 | floozy |
词源 | floozy [L19th] These days floozy (or floozie) has a dated feel, and is only really used in jokey contexts. It is not that old a word, though, and does not seem to have been used before the 19th century. It might come from the English dialect word floosy, meaning ‘fluffy, soft’, or from flossy [M19th], which is literally ‘like silk, silky’ but can mean ‘saucy, cheeky’, or ‘showy, flashy’ in the USA and was used for a slovenly women in the early 19th century and as an alternative for floozy in the late 19th and is still used in that way in Australia. |
